What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

When I’m not in the office and teaching, I love anything outdoors, especially hiking! One of my biggest life goals is to visit every national park in the US. I also enjoy playing piano/violin, staying politically active, and making meals with friends.

How did you become interested in CER?

I did a lot of tutoring and mentoring in undergrad and became interested in how students are learning chemistry and how instructors can adapt lessons to promote engagement, enhance understanding, and improve communication. My goal is to create a curriculum that allows students to learn chemistry effectively while simultaneously creating positive global citizens and strong scientific communicators. CER allows me to do this!

What do you hope to do after your time in the Becker Group?

I wish to work in science education policy and curriculum development.

What is your main research project?

I am working on the 3D Learning Project which is in collaboration with UW-Madison and Michigan State. The goal of this project is to examine the impact of three different learning environments on students’ reasoning involving science practices and epistemological assumptions towards knowledge construction.
